Academic Tests

Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress Plus (ISTEP+) - All students in grades 3-10 must take the ISTEP+ assessment each year. It uses multiple-choice and applied skills questions to test students in language arts, math, social studies and science. An alternative assessment is available for disabled students.

Adult Education/High School Equivalency (formerly GED) - Indiana offers the  GEC by examination to adults without a high school diploma. The test covers language arts, social studies, mathematics and science. Most questions are multiple choice but there is an essay in the language arts section. A minimum score of 2250 points is required to pass.

Indiana Cosmetologist Exams and Licensing - Indiana requires cosmetologists to pass a licensing exam given by the Indiana State Board of Cosmetology in order to receive a license to work in the state. Before applicants are eligible to sit for the exam they must have completed a minimum of 1500 hours of coursework.

Indiana Massage Therapist Exams and Licensing - The State Board of Massage Therapy requires massage therapists to pass the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx) to receive a license. It is a computer-based test that includes multiple aspects of massage therapy including anatomy, ethics, professional guidelines and history. The exam fee is $195.

Indiana Real Estate Licensing and Testing - Real estate agents in Indiana must pass a computer-based examination to receive their license in the state. Candidates must have passed a state-approved pre-licensing course before they are eligible to take the test. Agents with a license from another state may receive a license by reciprocity and not take the exam.

Indiana State Auctioneers Exam - In the state of Indiana all would-be auctioneers must take an 80-hour instruction course from an approved provider and then take the Indiana State Auctioneer's Examination to be licensed. The test is four hours long and is administered six times a year in Indianapolis. The fee is $35.

Driver's Tests

Indiana Driving Tests - New drivers must hold a learner's permit before taking the driver's license exams. All drivers must pass a driving skills test, a vision screening and a written exam to get a license. The driving skills test is given by appointment only but walk-ins are allowed for the other two tests.
