Academic Tests

Ohio's State Tests - Students in grades 3-8 take these annual exams in English language arts and mathematics. In grades 5 and 8, students also take a science exam. 

Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) - Ohio students must pass all of the Ohio Graduation Tests (OGT) to receive a high school diploma. The five tests of the OGT cover reading, writing, science, social studies and math. Students begin taking the tests in their sophomore year and can take any portion they fall twice a year thereafter.

Ohio General Equivalency Diploma (GED) - The Ohio General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is available to anyone who is 19 years of age or older and does not hold a high school diploma. The GED tests candidates in math, reading, writing, social studies and science. Candidates must have a combined score of 2250 to pass.

Ohio Real Estate Agents Tests and Licensure - Real estate agents in Ohio must pass an exam before receiving their license. The exam has both a national portion and a state-specific portion and covers various features of real estate law and practice. Candidates have a total of three hours to complete both sections.

Ohio Contractors Tests and Licensing - Ohio requires all contractors to pass an exam to be licensed. Contractors who must take the test include HVAC technicians, refrigeration technicians and electricians. The test has a two-hour section on contracting laws and regulations and a two or three-hour section on the specific trade the contractor will engage in.

Ohio Auctioneers Tests and Licensing - Auctioneers must sit for an exam after they finish their schooling and apprenticeship. The exam has both a verbal and a written component. All applicants must score 75 percent or better to pass. The fee to take the exam is $15. The exam is waived for reciprocal applicants.

Ohio Appraisers Exams and Licensing - After finishing the required schooling an appraiser in Ohio must sit for and pass the Licensed Residential Appraiser Exam to get a license. Candidates have six hours to complete the multiple-choice, computer-based exam. It is not an open-book test. Candidates must pay a fee of $125 to take the test.

Ohio Funeral Directors Tests and Licensing - All funeral directors in Ohio must pass two exams to be licensed. The first is an Ohio Laws and Rules Exam and the second is a comprehensive exam on funeral practices and procedures. It is administered by the Ohio State Board. Both tests are computer-based and both are closed book.

Driver's Tests

Ohio Driving Tests - First-time applicants are required to pass a driving skills test. They must hold a valid temporary instruction permit before scheduling the driving test. A vision test and a written test are required to get the instruction permit. New residents have to take a vision test and a written test.

Ohio Commerical Driving Tests - Drivers who wish to obtain a CDL in Ohio must pass a written test and a driving skills test for each class of vehicle and endorsement. The driving skills test includes a pre-trip inspection, an on-road skills test and an off-road maneuvering test. Separate fees are assessed for each section.
