Academic Tests

New Mexico’s Measures of Student Success & Achievement (NM-MSSA) -  New Mexico requires all students in grades 3-8 to take the NM-MSSA in math and English language arts. The tests can be administered in both English and Spanish.

New Mexico Assessment of Science Readiness (NM-ASR) - Students in grades 5, 8 and 11 take this mandatory field test to measure progress in science.

New Mexico Plumbing Exams and Licensure - For information on testing and licensing requirements to become a plumber in New Mexico.

New Mexico Cosmetologists Tests and Licensing - Cosmetologists must pass a licensing exam after they complete their training. The exam is available in both English and Spanish. It is a computer-based exam and candidates have 90 minutes to answer all of the multiple-choice questions. The test is closed book. Appointments may be made by calling the testing company.

New Mexico Real Estate Brokers Exams and Licensure - New Mexico requires all real estate brokers to pass a state exam in addition to the national exam. The two exams are taken together and are administered via computer. Applicants have a total of three hours to complete the two tests.

New Mexico Real Estate Appraiser Tests and Licensing - The Real Estate Appraisers Board requires all real estate appraisers to complete a written examination prior to receiving their license. The questions on the test are short response and constructed response. Candidates can not take the test until they have successfully completed their educational requirements.

New Mexico Manufactured Housing Installers Exams and Licensing - All manufactured housing installers must pass a licensing exam before being allowed to work in the state of New Mexico. The exam has three parts and takes approximately three hours. The multiple-choice test is taken on a computer and is open book.

New Mexico Contractor Tests and Licensing - New Mexico requires all contractors to take a licensing exam. The two-part exam has a business and law section and a section on the specific trade the contractor will practice. The test is computer-based and is administered by a private testing service. All the questions are multiple-choice.

Driver's Tests

New Mexico Driving Tests - Drivers who have never been licensed must pass a vision test, a written test and a road test. They must also pay a fee of $18. Teen drivers are issued a provisional license and must have it for 90 days without any violations before they can receive a full license.

New Mexico Commercial Driving Tests - New Mexico requires Commercial Driver's License (CDL) applicants to take a written test for the license class and any endorsements they wish to get. Once they pass the written test they are granted an instruction permit and can schedule a road skills test. Licensed new residents can transfer their licenses without testing.
