The Test of English as a Foreign Language, or TOEFL, is given to students seeking admission to a college in an English-speaking country when English is not their first language. The exam simulates college classroom situations and assesses how well a prospective student will be able to coverse with professors and peers, understand the material being taught and complete assigned work. The TOEFL includes sections on reading, written English, spoken English and listening. For more about the TOEFL, read The Guide to the TOEFL and see our interview with TOEFL expert Joseph Larimore.
